A Review of 2019

A review of 2019. Not an easy post to select from 38,000+ photos and videos (and thats just from July on the new phone with 4 Leicas inside!). So here goes, with apologies…After working for more or less 35 years non stop, 2019 was a year of transition, and indeed in an increasingly crazy world, also a no-mad year, pun intended! Syukur alhamdullilah. This cover panel and next 9 tries to capture 2019 as best. 1/ transition into my sabattical, professional interest being to know more about the relationship between Finance and Society. Appointed to 2 fellowships at Cambridge, WEF Global Future Council on Investing, the Steering Committee of Global Ethical Finance Initiative among others. Delivered 24 lectures, talks. 8 in Cambridge, another 5 in UK, 8 in Malaysia.2/ much more quality family time. Ina and Aishah made good progress on their careers at Axiom and Fave respectively, moved out to KL Sentral. Zayd entered his senior year at Georgetown, leading his acapella in the process and summer internship in the Silicon Valley and London. Tasnim chose Columbia alhamdullilah and has settled in well including a place in her coveted acapella group. My dear Mum turned a sprightly 86 and had a great time with the extended Fam too. 3/ fulfilled a teenage dream of 39 years, with Kembara Kretapi: 77 days, 77 trains, 22 countries, 54 cities, 63,000+km around the globe. Mas was by my side, for 49 of the 77 days.

4/ several other memorable trips: speech and umrah in Saudi, beautiful Budapest, 2 great trips to Japan (RWC then family holiday), China, UAE, Istanbul, Dortmund, Madrid, Cornwall, Penang, Terrenganu, Langkawi 5/ Tax driven, exactly 90 days in Malaysia. High quality time with friends and family & Raya Open House, Serpents, F&T etc.

6/ Cambridge & London life. Ramadan in UK including the great new Cambridge Eco Mosque. Missed home sometimes but thanks to the scores of friends coming through, home came to us! 7/ roller-coaster year following Spurs. Improbably heroic CL run to Madrid, great new stadium, MoPo to JoMo.

Most of all, syukur alhamdullilah to God Almighty for the innumerable blessings and syukran tqvm to family & friends. 🙏❤️🕋
